Role and Facility Information
Dease Lake is located in one of the most spectacular wilderness areas remaining in BC. We provide family medicine and emergency services to remote northern BC. Patients requiring admission/ further workup are transferred to higher level of care. Dease Lake offers some of the province’s very best fishing, hunting, hiking, camping and boating. In the winter there is snow showing, cross country skiing, skating and ice fishing. You can easily be on call while enjoying some of the province’s best outdoor recreation.

About the Clinic
Clinic Description
Clinic Composition
Dease Lake has 2-3 MD’s, 1-3 RNs and 1 lab / X-Ray tech. There is one large emergency resuscitation room and a separate isolation negative pressure room. We have 1-3 paramedics on site. We do weekly outreach clinics to Iskut and Telegraph Creek.
Local Resources
We have a local mental health services team as well as outreach psychiatry. We have in house lab and X-Ray in Dease Lake. PT is generally virtual, otherwise in person PT / OT is accessed in person in Terrace, BC.
Emergency Framework
Our resuscitation / emergency room is fully equipped with advanced airway equipment, transport ventilator, defibrillator, AirVo and high quality bedside point of care ultrasound among other emergency equipment.
Call Expectations
1:2 to 1:3, however can be flexible depending on locum interest. Each on call day is 24 hrs (8:30am – 8:30am).
CME Schedule
Weekly physician CME meetings.
Visiting Specialist/Consultant Information
Visiting internal medicine, psychiatry and dentistry to each community. Our referral hospital has support from internal medicine, pediatrics, general surgery, ortho, obs/ gyne, urology, plastics, ENT, anesthesia and radiology.

What training is provided for the EMR System
We use MOIS for our EMR. We book off ample time for new locums for MOIS training if required.
Level of Support/Care and Policy
Welcoming Procedures
Clean and fully furnished locum housing is provided and ready for locum arrival. Time is booked off on the first day for new locums for orientation on site at the Stikine Health Centre
Orientation
Orientation takes place at the Stikine Health Centre. The other local physician will orient the new locum. Also the nurse manager will provide additional orientation.
Social Involvement
There are regular community events in each of the communities depending on the time of year. Recreation is often focused around outdoor activities such as cross country skiing, snow showing, ice fishing, skating, fishing, hiking, swimming, sauna, hunting, etc. We hope that any locum will join in on community and social events. We often hold barbecues or dinner parties at our health centre as well.
Clinic Policy
We do not admit any patients at the Stikine Health Centre. Any patient requiring admission or investigation at higher level of care must be transferred.
Accommodation and Transportation
The clinic does provide accommodation.
Accommodation Description
We provide clean, private, furnished locum housing equipped with a full kitchen, TV, private phone and WIFI. Houses have 1-2 rooms and some have small work-out areas included (treadmill / weights). There is a small 24/7 gym at the health centre.
Most Convenient Mode of Transportation
Most locums drive to Dease Lake from Terrace, Smithers or Whitehorse. Car rental and fuel is covered by RGPLP. Most amenities are within walking distance. Clinic vehicles are used for Iskut and Telegraph Creek outreach clinics.
