Our team provides regular clinic, emergency, and inpatient services under one roof to a combined Nuxalk First Nation and non-aboriginal community of approximately 2500 people. No obstetrics required. Clinic support staff provided. Bella Coola sits in a mountain valley, at the end of a long, truly magnificent fjord, on the mainland coast of BC. It is 500 km north of Vancouver and 450 km west of Williams Lake. Come join us where mountains and ocean converge to provide nature-lovers with outstanding outdoor recreational opportunities in the pristine Cariboo-Chilcotin-Coast! Applicants will require ACLS, ATLS and PALS or NRP certification to work in Emergency. If any of the certifications have expired, CARE certification can replace the expired certification.

About the Clinic
Clinic Description
Clinic Composition
6 physicians, two full time and the others part time. Staffing at 3 – 4 physicians per day. 3 doctors’ offices (2 shared) and 6 patient exam rooms. Bella Coola General Hospital has 10 acute beds and a 2-bed emergency department open 24/7.

Call Expectations
1:4, sometimes 1:3 depending on the number of physicians available. Call is from 0800 to 0800. If weekend coverage is requested, call will include covering either the Saturday or Sunday. Usually the Saturday if this is the last weekend on site.

On-site training the first morning. There is no computer based learning system available to train ahead of time

Welcoming Procedures
Prior to confirming the locum, you will be provided with an Orientation document, Locum FAQ and community Information document. Once you arrive, you will be met at the airport as there is no taxi service, and taken to your accommodation.
Orientation
On-site full orientation first day (morning) with EMR training. Short clinic in the afternoon.
Social Involvement
Baseball, volleyball, basketball leagues, invitations to community events.
: The only cell service that works in Bella Coola is Telus and reception outside of the town may not always be available

Accommodation Description
Across from the hospital/clinic. $60/night billed directly to RGPLP by the site. Some locums/residents may have to share a large house. The houses are equipped with kitchen utensils, bedding, furniture, TV with basic cable and a VCR. Pet free.
Most Convenient Mode of Transportation
Pacific Coastal Airlines, BC ferry, or drive but check out the video on the Bella Coola hill first as the last part of the road (65KM) can be a challenge for some
