To provide locum services through the Rural FP Locum Program (RFPLP), a locum physician must:
- Be licensed (or eligible) to practise medicine in BC.
- Reside in BC for the duration of their RFPLP assignment.
- Have malpractice liability insurance with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).
- Certification in ACLS or The CARE Course. ATLS not mandatory, but preferred.
- Enrolled in the Medical Services Plan of BC (MSP).
- Confirmation that you are formally credentialed and privileged by an applicable health authority to practise in a designated facility (if required).
- Provide a list of any enhanced skills (i.e., Obstetrics/Gynecology, Anesthesia, Emergency or General Surgery) you may be able/willing to provide.
To Apply
To work as a locum physician with the RFPLP, you will be required to submit:
- A signed application form: Application to Provide Rural FP Locum Services.
- Proof of current licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC).
- Proof of current malpractice insurance with the CMPA.
- Medical Services Plan (MSP) billing number.
- ACLS or CARE Course certification. ATLS preferred but not mandatory.
- Current curriculum vitae (CV).
Once your application has been completed, and all accompanying documentation has been received, you will be notified of your registration status.
After you have been accepted into the program, you will be sent a service agreement which you must sign and return to our office prior to the commencement of a locum assignment. This service agreement is renewed annually.
